<p>The first modern tattoo machine was modelled after Thomas Edison&rsquo;s engraving machine. Nowadays, the most commonly used tool is an electric tattoo gun that has a single or multiple needles that deliver the pigment inside the skin.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Our skin has three layers, epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis. The pigment or ink is inserted into all three layers. Why doesn&rsquo;t the skin try to expel it?
